Hello @mdsmith1,
You may refer Retool documentation Manage organization users | Retool Docs. for detailed guidance and best practices.
The documentation refers to things that don't exist but I was able to navigate from the opening screen to the screen below.
There is a button where I can add a user but it doesn't work.
Have you had any real life experience with this?
I don't think the documentation has been updated for a number of years.
Mike
Hi Mike, the documentation is still accurate. Your image shows the permissions page for the admin group, and not the users page. If you navigate to /settings/users
page in your organization, you will be able to see an enabled invite button.
Hi @mdsmith1, you're looking at the settings for the Admin Permission Group.
To get to the page where you can invite users go back to your org's settings and click Users
instead.
Go Back:
Go to Users
and Invite
:
This screen will pop up, make sure to click on the dropdown when you're done typing. Clicking outside of it will remove the input:
This is how it will look after clicking the dropdown:
Click Invite users
.
Paulo:
Thank you, I have followed the steps.
It now says the new User is pending. (see below)
What happens next?
Mike
The invited user should have received an email to create an account and join your organization.
Albert:
The problem is the Invite button does not work. You have to click on the email address instead.
The documentation talked about clicking on "Settings" when there was no "Settings" button to click on.
The steps on how to get to the Organization screen are not covered in the documentation.
Mike
Albert:
Yes that has worked.
I don't want the new user to see all the stuff I do.
I just want him to see one App.
How do I do that?
Mike
From the documentation:
- Click the User menu on the upper-right, then select Settings.
- Select the Users settings in the Organization section of the sidebar.
Step 1
Step 2
I see how this step can be confusing. By User settings
, we mean these settings on the sidebar:
Which are not under the Organization
section anymore, we moved them to the User management
section.
Apologies for the confusion! We've submitted an internal request to update our documentation to better reflect the current state of our UI.
Thank you for your feedback!
You can configure granular permissions on the Business plan and above. Here is our documentation on it:
If you would like to learn more about User Permissions, @JoeyKarczewski recently created a topic on it:
Here is the link to their blog:
Thanks Paulo:
I am following along OK now.
So I have a new User and I only want him to access 1 App (Speeding01).
I have the screen below but I am not able to do anything with it.
Mike
Instead of selecting the user under Users settings, go to Permissions settings under the User management section. Here is where you can manage what group the user is in and what permissions that group has.
You can also create a new group.
Paulo:
The screens aren't working.
I am under the Team Plan. I have a feeling that I am not allowed to control what my Users have access to.
Mike
That is correct, Permission groups are not available on the Team plan. It's a feature available on the Business and Enterprise plans.
Here is the breakdown of each plan in case you would like to learn more about each plan and its features:
Paulo:
OK. thanks.
I know how to give them a launch icon that will take them to the start up screen and avoid looking at the list of apps,
So now that I understand how it all works, I can take it from here.
Thanks for all your help.
Mike
You are welcome!
