Sharing is not available for this resource on classic apps

  1. My goal:

Generate a public link for a classic app so anonymous visitors can use it with no Retool login. Per the docs ( Preview and share classic apps with users | Retool Docs ) and the changelog ("Public links now available on the Free and Team plans"), this should be available on my plan.

  1. Issue:

Clicking Share opens the "Share this app" modal, but it only shows: "Sharing is not available for this resource."

  • No "Manage access" section, no public link toggle, no invite option
  • It happens for EVERY classic app in the org, not just one.
  • It's the same from the Home page app list, the editor, and the published app view.
  1. Steps I've taken to troubleshoot:
  • Verified I'm an org admin
  • Verified the apps are published and not in Drafts (they're in the root folder)
  • Logged out and back in
  • Checked Settings > Advanced and Settings > App security
  • Confirmed anonymous access is refused: the app's data API returns 401 for non-logged-in visitors, and the embed code shows a login wall
  1. Additional info:
  • Cloud, org: singularcoffee.retool.com
  • Team plan
  • Admin account
  • Classic apps (not the new app builder)
  • Screenshot of the Share modal attached

Hey @manesse_clam :waving_hand:

Thanks for flagging this. What you're hitting is a bug on our side, not a limit of your plan, which is why the Share modal shows "Sharing is not available for this resource."

Engineering has since shipped a fix. Could you reload and let us know if you're still seeing it? If it's still there, share your Retool subdomain (the yoursubdomain.retool.com prefix) and we'll get sharing restored for your org right away. Thanks for your patience! :folded_hands:

Hey @manesse_clam, just circling back on this one. Did reloading do the trick, or are you still seeing "Sharing is not available for this resource" on your classic apps?

If it's still showing up, let me know and I'm happy to take a closer look!

hey thank you for following up.
yes it is solved now. Thanks a lot !

Thanks for confirming, @manesse_clam! :raising_hands:

We are experiencing this same issue @ChiEn . Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hi @cwascha, welcome to the Community! Thanks for flagging this, and sorry for the hassle! :folded_hands:

Two quick things to help us get you sorted:

  1. Could you give it one hard reload (or open a fresh browser tab) and let us know if the Share modal changes?
  2. Which Retool subdomain are you on (the yoursubdomain.retool.com prefix)? That lets us check your org directly.

Thanks @ChiEn . I tried a hard refresh and an incognito widow, but had the same results. Our subdomin is pocketnest.

Hey there @cwascha, just to confirm, you are on the Free plan, correct?

I dug into your org, and this one looks different from the original thread. In your case it appears to be expected behavior rather than a glitch. The Share options are part of our paid plans, so on the Free plan the Share panel shows "Sharing is not available for this resource" even for org admins.

Public links to classic apps are available on the Team, Business, and Enterprise plans. You can see the details here: Share your classic apps externally | Retool Docs

If upgrading is an option, you can compare what each plan includes here: Pricing | Retool. And if you believe your org should already be on a paid plan, just let me know and I will take another look! :+1:

@ChiEn Thank you for the reply. I have always been able to share, is this a new restriction on free accounts?

@ChiEn

Classic App public sharing is unavailable in my Retool Cloud workspace. Share displays β€œSharing is not available for this resource.” I understand this was the issue tracked in the July 2026 Classic Apps sharing incident and that a fix was deployed. Could you restore sharing for my organization? My Retool subdomain is nakshatraroy.retool.com.

Hey @cwascha, yes, this is a recent change. As of July 2026, public sharing for classic apps is no longer included on the Free plan, which is why you were able to share previously.

@Nakshatra_Roy, welcome to the Community! I looked into your org as well, and it is on the Free plan too, so you are seeing this for the same reason. Just to clarify, this is not the July 2026 incident resurfacing. That was a separate issue that has since been fixed. Public links to classic apps are available on the Team, Business, and Enterprise plans, same as I shared with @cwascha. You can see the details here: Share your classic apps externally | Retool Docs

If upgrading is an option, you can compare what each plan includes here: Pricing | Retool

Hope that clears things up! Let me know if you have any other questions.
