Public link sharing missing for new app builder

Built a dashboard in the new AI-native app builder and need to share it with reviewers who don't have Retool accounts. No public link option shows up anywhere in Share — only seems available for classic apps.

Saw in an earlier thread that this is expected behavior for now (linked below). Wanted to +1 it — this is a real blocker for anyone sharing new-builder apps externally.

Two questions:

  1. Any timeline for public links in the new builder?

  2. Is there an officially supported way to convert a new-builder app to classic (opposite of the existing classic → new converter)?

Summary

A dashboard was built in the new app builder and needs to be shared via a public link with reviewers who don't have Retool accounts, but no public link option appears in the Share modal — it only seems available for classic apps. The questions are whether there's a timeline for public links in the new builder and whether there's an officially supported way to convert a new-builder app back to classic.

AI Response

This reflects a current, known limitation: public link and external sharing are officially documented only for classic apps, not the new app builder. Per the most recent Retool staff update, embedding authenticated apps is the active priority and is expected to ship in roughly 6-8 weeks, while true public (no-account) apps are still in the use-case-gathering stage with no committed date. Retool only documents a one-way classic → new app builder converter; there is no documented officially supported path to convert a new-builder app back to classic. In the meantime, rebuilding the dashboard in the classic builder is the only supported route to a public link today.

Retool staff confirm public sharing is currently classic-only and give the latest timeline: embedding authenticated apps expected in ~6-8 weeks, with true public apps still under evaluation.

Official docs showing public links and external sharing are supported specifically for classic apps, corroborating the limitation.

Hey @Mustakim_Billah welcome to the Community! Excited to hear you have been trying out the new app builder! :rocket:

On public link sharing: this is on our radar, but I don't have a timeline to share just yet. Darren shared more context on where things stand if you'd like to follow along, feel free to add a +1 on that thread as we're collecting requests to help prioritize the feature.

On converting back to classic: not right now. We only support the one-way path (classic to new app builder) since the goal is to move everyone toward the new builder over time, so there's no reverse converter today. For now, rebuilding in the classic builder is the only route if you need a public link in the meantime.

Let me know if that's clear, and happy to help with anything else. Thank you! :raising_hands:
