- My goal: Run code in the editor and read whatâs returned
- Issue: The editor doesnât seem to be fully loading. In transformers, {{ bracketed }} code isnât shown as green and doesnât appear to be reading. In JS queries, clicking âTestâ doesnât return results, even in skeleton apps.
- Steps I've taken to troubleshoot: Created a new query with nothing more than âreturn âhelloâ;â as the only code. Clicked âTest.â Editor claims nothing is returned.
- Additional info: Cloud. Screenshots below.
Hi @jericsinger!
Sorry to hear that you're having this editor issue. I'm not able to replicate this issue in my own editor at the moment, so to get more info from you:
-
Is this issue consistently reproducible for you (is it happening every time)? Or is the issue intermittent? If it is the latter, would a hard refresh get you back to normal?
-
When the issue happens, are you seeing anything in the browser console? Any error messages?
-
What browser are you using? It is likely not related, but noticed that your Retool UI in your screenshots is slightly different from mine - just wanted to check if switching to another browser resolves the problem.
Please let me know - thanks!

This issue is consistently reproducible in a specific (important) app. The app will load normally, then the error will occur once I attempt to run a transformer. At that point, refreshing the tab once will cause the drag-and-drop UI editor to hang on loading, but the code editor will load normally. Thatâs usually when the âgreen bracketsâ start failing (though weirdly enough, hovering over the bracketed text will still produce a hover box with the data). If I refresh a second time, itâs 50/50 whether everything goes back to working as expected (until I run a transformer again) or the UI editor continues to hang. If the UI editor is left hanging, Iâll eventually get a request to wait out or kill the process.
-
Iâm not seeing anything show up in the browser console on hang. There are a number of standard errors Iâve been living with for a while (see below)
-
Iâve reproduced this issue in both Chrome and Firefox.
Hi @jericsinger !
Thanks for joining Office Hours yesterday! We're taking a look at the additional info you sent over and will hopefully have a better idea of what's going on soon.
