I seem to have lost the folders that I've previously created on the Apps page. Has something changed?
I came to the forum to see if there was a discussion about this. I've also noticed that the view, when first logging into Retool, is different.
It used to show me a list of all my apps and folders, with the starred stuff at the top. Now it defaults to show me a 'Recent' tab, which is an unordered list of my most recently used/edited apps.
To get the view that I was used to, I now have to click on the 'Published' tab. Here, my apps/folders are listed like I'm used to seeing when first logging in. (Although, I swear, the other day when viewing the 'Published' tab, the starred stuff wasn't at the top. Today, it is. shrug)
Is this what you're referring to?
Is this related?
That's it - the published view is the old view, the new default appears to be the recent, as you've spotted. Thank you.
I'm curious as to why this was even changed in the first place. I liked having that view as my default view, not the Recents.
So did I, at least everything in that view stayed in the same place.
Hi folks,
Thanks for flagging this feedback! We've shared it with our team internally, and I can follow up if I am notified about any changes
For reference, this was part of a recent update described here: Updates to the Retool Apps landing page | Retool Docs
Any update on this? Very frustrating to not see my folder structure as the default anymore.
Hi @kyleteal,
Just added a +1 to the ticket for you. It looked like this ticket was backlogged but another user reported this as a blocking issue for a larger enterprise org so the ticket has been designated for action within 3 months ![]()
Just disclosure, our engineering resources have been focused on some major AI feature rollouts which I think you will really like. Then we will be back to working through product improvements and our backlog of tickets.
Apologies for the long wait!
Thanks Jack, to be honest we don't particularly care about the AI features, it is a little discouraging to see how much effort goes into that vs the fundamentals of the platform, at least recently. We are looking at enterprise but that specifically is a sticking point for us. It is good to hear that you all will be going back to fixing some of these more underlying issues later. It is also nice to hear that enterprise users get some priority on feature requests.
@kyleteal Thank you for understanding.
I agree, this change with how apps and app folders are viewed from the home page seems to have caught users off guard and caused some confusion instead of the intended hope that, as elaborated in the link Tess shared from the change log, that this change would help reduce clutter and make the UI cleaner for better UX ![]()
I don't foresee any changes coming to this part of the UI, and would feel confident saying that any folders you build out under 'Starred' will be consistent and easy to access.
With the recent, draft and published tabs being obviously organized chronologically.
This makes it difficult to build an information hierarchy in our structuring of folders and applications that helps our team build a mental schema aligned with our retool strategy.
We have our own UX objectives, and making the recents folder the default hamstrings our ability to do that.
