Hey Retool team
First off, big fan of the platform—it's powerful and makes internal tool building so much faster. I’ve been using it regularly and wanted to share a few suggestions that could really improve the app-building experience:
-
Custom HTML /Markdown support on Buttons, Navigation Buttons, and Tabs. Useful for tab badges, unread markers, item count, etc.
-
Highlight today’s date in the Calendar (monthly view) – just a small thing that helps with clarity at a glance.
-
Google Drive native integration with a proper Drive Picker – would simplify file selection directly from Drive.
-
New component idea: File Explorer / Navigator – useful for apps that manage or organize files/folders, with sortable file names, sizes, upload date, etc.
-
Custom icon support, or a way to add new icons to the existing Retool icon set. Being able to add custom icons (or access a broader set) would improve UI flexibility across components.
-
More columns/grid options for layouts – sometimes the current grid feels limiting for complex UIs. I got buttons and containers that look too big, or look incredibly small/narrow, because of the 12-grid constraint.
-
New/Improved notifications & alerts component – Think floating toast messages, global notifications, or even marquee-style running text. The current Alert component works, but it’s hard to place over other elements.
-
More customizable modals. Let us set modal dimensions in px/% and position them freely on the screen. This would be great for context menus, mini popups, etc.
-
Folders or collapsible groups for code and queries – just for better organization and readability, especially in complex apps.
-
Better mobile app experience – maybe take some inspiration from platforms like Bubble.io (recent Native Mobile App beta). A smoother and more customizable mobile UI would make a huge difference.
Would love to hear if any of these are on the roadmap, or if others in the community are looking for similar features.
Keep up the great work!
