Retool Storage vs S3 bucket: folder inconsistencies

When I create a folder in Retool Storage and I then go check my S3, I don't see the folder there. Equally, when I create a folder in my S3 (from AWS console) and I then check /files in my self-hosted retool, I don't see those folders.

Is this expected behavior?

PS. file uploads, etc work great and are visible on both ends. I am on self-hosted retool.

Hi @Ori,

That is odd that file uploads and other operations work fine but that they folders are not synced up

I just found our docs on connecting Retool Storage with s3, potentially this could be a permissions issue where the privileges for folder creation have not been authorized for the Retool org?

Let me know if you have completed all the steps from our docs on the set up. My initial guess is that one step may have been missed but I don't know for sure until I can look at the app/set up live or via screenshots.

Hi @Ori,

Are you still experiencing this issue? Is it not appearing initially but appearing later on when the folder/file navigator is able to refresh and update?

It was true when I was trying it when I wrote the post. Idk now. I am not dealing with retool storage at all; moved entirely to S3 for that reason.

Ah ok, thanks for letting me know.

Apologies for the issue, we definitely recommend moving off of Retool Storage for production data. Retool Storage is a lot better suited to development testing use cases.
