Goal: Sidebar expandable width via toggle button
-
Details: I have a sidebar with a tabbed container inside of it. The container view changes depending on what page is being displayed, but some objects inside the container (especially container headers) report that they are scoped to the app, despite being inside a global object (the sidebar).
-
Steps: If I just "mess" with it, sometimes I can get the references to work correctly. Adding it in different ways (drag and drop, the in-UI plus button, duplicate existing object, etc) but editing it seems to have a risk of making it "break".
-
Screenshots:
Sort of hard to tell what's going on here but: The sidebar width should be "expandable" via the toggle button, but the toggle and switches throw reference errors and the sidebar reverts to it's default width. "switch_show_preview" is the object in question here, but the same issue arises for the toggle button to the right of it too.
Quick update
If I duplicate the object, and reference the new object, it seems like it always works. But it'll break again as soon as I edit it. This seems to be a manageable workaround at the moment.
I haven't observed this behavior in any case other than objects inside containers in the sidebar. I haven't attempted outside of a container in the sidebar.
Thanks for reporting this! We will take a look at this bug and get back to you once we have some updates.
Hey @richschaeffer ! I tried to reproduce this myself and haven't been able to. As a sanity check, what version of Retool are you on?
We've been making some updates to this scoping recently, so there's a chance this has already been fixed if you're on an older version of on prem.
If you're on cloud, then you should have all our related fixes and I'm stumped. A video recording of how you got into this state would be very appreciated! You're welcome to DM it to me if you don't want that public.
Cloud! I'll check if it's fixed later. It could be related to copy/pasting components from another app.
