Hi,
I have a complex series of queries & transformations that I would like to keep in sync across a mobile app & a desktop app.
I created it as a module but I can't seem to use the module in the mobile app - there is no way to add it.
Am I missing something please?
Hey @mawdo81! Thanks for reaching out.
Unfortunately, the mobile app-building experience doesn't currently support modules. Having the ability to share complex logic across both web and mobile would be super nice, though! There's an internal conversation already going that I'll bump on your behalf.
Yeah I understand it wouldn't be straightforward as there are some UI elements that are unavailable in mobile that could be in a module...but it is a pain having to keep 2 lots of code in sync
Hi @Darren , are there any updates regarding modules for mobile apps? It would be a huge benefit to have them even if you can use them in mobile apps only. Being able to use the same module for web and mobile would be even better, of course.
Hey @DKK - I don't have any significant updates to share, unfortunately. We've had to push back our UI encapsulation and reusability project a bit, but it's still a core element of our product vision and roadmap.
I fear that in the clear chasing of AI and associated buzz, ReTool has lost sight of the problems it was trying to solve for as well as sensible engagement with its community of users.
There's some truth to that, @mawdo81, in the sense that we've had to reprioritize certain projects and engineering time. The feedback loop on some requests has taken longer to close, as a result, but our Community team is still active on the forums every day! We're actively surfacing feedback and advocating on behalf of the community at large, so don't hesitate to reach out if there's something you feel particularly passionate about.
But who is retool aimed at? I thought it was none technical people but the learning curve for them to work with LLMs using MCP and agents is dauntingly steep.
Yet the the features that would attract them and make life easy for them are being ignored/forgotten
Or has Retool changed its vision and is now after enterprise organisations looking at ways to streamline their IT operations?
Nothing about our long term vision or ideal customer has drastically changed! We still want to bring good software to as many people as possible. That being said, I don't think Retool has ever been a true "no-code" platform and is generally most useful to builders with some minimum level of technical ability.
As the surface area of the product has grown, it's also become more difficult to triage and prioritize customer feedback. We're actively looking at ways to improve this experience, starting with visibility into the status of existing bug reports and feature requests.
Interesting as I'd agree with that statement but your cost model and lack control on who can edit/build on the Team platform massively contradicts that
That's fair feedback, @mawdo81. I can pass it on to the team that looks at pricing.
