When I'm working in a specific mode, I like to use a specific app for it. When your favorite apps are just sites you visit on the web, your serious work is just another tab in your browser like the other ones. It can be so hard to focus and feel like "you're going to work."
It seems obvious but I haven't found any other posts suggesting this so...
The first thing I did when I joined Retool was make separate desktop apps via Google Chrome for both my personal Retool instance and our internal Retool at Retool instance. Using virtual desktops, I keep my main Retool development environment on workspace 5, focus just a single keystroke away.
Here's how to quickly create your own.
- Sign in and open your Retool dashboard at
https://yoursubdomain.retool.com
using Google Chrome. If you sign in to multiple organizations, you might want to use different profiles in Chrome to partition your sign in information. - In Chrome's UI, find the stack of three dots near the top-right of the window to open a series of options. Select
Cast, Save, and Share
and thenInstall Page as App...
- Give your shortcut a name and click
INSTALL
- The app will be placed in your home directory's
Chrome Apps
directory, customize the icon for even easier identification - Add it to your dock for easy access
Now when you're ready to get retoolin, you'll have a dedicated app to stay focused in.
