Holiday Shipping War Room

Holiday Shipping War Room

From live shipment signals to confident operational decisions

Hi Retool team & community

I built Holiday Shipping War Room as an operations-first app designed to answer a critical question:

When shipments go off plan, how quickly can teams understand why β€” and act with confidence?

This app focuses on decision speed, not just visibility.

What the app delivers

Holiday Shipping War Room unifies real-time shipment data, event timelines, and AI-driven reasoning into a single operational workflow:

War Room

  • Live global map with shipment routes and current positions
  • Clear status signals: On Track / At Risk / Delayed
  • An Action Queue that prioritizes shipments needing immediate attention

Shipment Timeline + AI Summary

  • Event-by-event timeline generated from shipment events (order β†’ delivery)
  • AI produces a concise operational summary explaining:
    • What happened
    • Why the shipment is at risk
    • What the next logical action should be
  • Designed for human decision-makers, not system logs

Decision Intelligence (Signal β†’ Action)

  • Natural-language questions like:
β€œCreate a decision-first shipment command center that surfaces revenue at risk, visualizes live routes and disruptions, and automatically prioritizes which shipments need action this weekβ€”reducing firefighting and protecting holiday revenue.”
  • AI reasons across real shipment events, not mock data
  • Insights can be exported as a PDF snapshot for leadership or audits

Shipment Control

  • Status-aware, filterable shipment table for operational management

Financial Impact

  • Converts operational risk into revenue exposure and trends

How AI is used (intentionally)

AI is not used to fabricate data or auto-run workflows.

Instead, it:

  • Consumes deterministic shipment timelines built via SQL
  • Generates on-demand, context-aware explanations
  • Acts as a decision layer, not a black box
  • Only runs when the user explicitly asks for insight

The philosophy: AI should reduce cognitive load, not replace operational judgment.

Architecture (high level)

  • Retool Database for shipment + event data
  • SQL used to construct reliable timelines and risk states
  • AI invoked only at decision points (drawer open, question submitted)
  • Outputs are human-readable, auditable, and exportable

Why this matters

Most logistics tools explain what is happening.
This app focuses on what to do next and why.

Thanks for taking a look
