Duplicated query folders

Howdy all,

I just opened an App I hadn’t edited since December last year, and my global query folders have been duplicated. But when I expand (or collapse) one, all the others of the same name expand. So it’s a UI issue, not an actual duplication of queries and folders.

If I create a new folder, then only one folder is created. Likewise with resources.

Has this popped up on anyone’s radar. I can share app ID in DM if required.

Hey @hansontools,

I tried to reproduce this on my side in one of my Retool apps, and based on my testing it looks like Retool currently prevents creating folders with duplicate names at the same level. When I attempt to create a folder with an existing name, it immediately throws a validation error saying that the folder already exists (see the validation message in the screenshot I shared).

Because of that, it doesn’t seem like true duplicate folders are actually being created in the backend. What you’re seeing — where multiple folders with the same name appear and expand/collapse together — strongly points to a UI rendering issue rather than real duplication of queries or folders.

A couple of extra checks that might help narrow it down:

  • Try creating a brand new folder — it should only appear once.
  • Try renaming one of the “duplicate” folders — if they’re UI mirrors, they’ll likely all reflect the change.
  • Do a hard refresh / clear cache and reload the editor.
  • Open the app in another browser or incognito window to compare behavior.

This looks like something the Retool team should be able to verify quickly.

Hi, I have just had this problem with duplicated folders in a Module I am working on. Never seen this before - but my Module is now unusable. Could you advise on how to recover from this please? Notice all the folders appear twice.

Hi @ChiEn - it looks like it has been fixed now. I just took a look and the duplicate folders have gone.

Hello again @Jon_Steele! Oh interesting, thanks for sharing that. Do you remember if anything changed right before the folders went back to normal? Also curious if you did anything around the time the folders duplicated in the first place?

I think what i did was copy something from another app into the module (using copy/paste). I created the module to refactor some common functionality which I am going to embed in 2 other apps. So I created the module and did some copying and pasting from the original app into the module. I think that’s probably related. Thanks

Hi!

Thanks for taking a look. It seems to be working now - so it was just a temporary glitch.
I didn't want to work on that module while it was being weird - but I have worked on it since and it's good now.
