That's a great component the Zebra DataWedge integration. I really appreciate you Guys let the enterprise solutions to be integrated that easily. I have one question though. What's the proper strategy if I want to designate a separate DataWedge profile for each of my Retool apps? Currently I can "intercept" it only on the com.retool.retool.* level, so it means that one profile can be assigned with the whole Retool solution. So one profile for all the apps within Retool. How to assign a different DataWedge profile to a different Retool app? Please advise.
Hey @suhl ,
Thank you for your kind words and for using Zebra DataWedge! Weβre glad to hear youβre finding the integration helpful.
To clarify, are you looking to assign a unique DataWedge profile to each individual Retool app, rather than having a single profile for all Retool apps?
Exactly! Is there any chance to achieve that functionality? Thank you.
Hi @suhl,
Thanks for confirming! I've added this as a feature request on file. We'll reply here if it gets picked up or if we have any more follow up questions
Hi @suhl,
A couple of quick follow up questions --
First, I haven't been able to locate your account based on the email you use here on the forum. Which Retool plan are you on? Are you using Cloud or self hosted? If you are on our Enterprise tier, one workaround we could explore could be having multiple apps white labelled. Each white labeled app then would have a unique identifier that we could use
Regardless of plan level, could you also share more context on your app use case and how this feature would help? (i..e would it help with managing permissions, onboarding other departments, etc) Thanks!
Zebra strategy is to move a lot of functionalities into the DataWedge so it becomes the pinnacle of data exchange between Zebra devices and third-party software. DataWedge profiles can control now the barcode scanner behavior and the RFID input plugin for which there are multiple antenna setups depending on what type of scanning you want to use (close range, high speed, etc.) Current DataWedge profile mapping alows 1:1 relation between itself and Retool limiting the user ability to use different Retool Apps to cover different functionalities with Zebra devices. If i want to design two apps in Retool for RFID application, one for very short range scanning, and another for long range tag detection I can't do it, as they both require two very different DataWedge reader settings that can only be created in two separate DataWedge profiles.
