Workflow Email Limit Hit but Didn't Actually Hit

I received the following error this morning when my workflows ran:

Error evaluating EMAILRESOURCEQUERY: Rate limit exceeded for Retool Email. You can only send 120 emails per hour.

I get the limit is 120 emails per hour but I was FAR from hitting this. Currently I have 34 separate email workflows that run. I found the closed topic here Workflow Retool Email Send Error? that has the same question, though they are on a free account and I am not. The solution states that while the documentation and error states the limit is 120 emails it is actually counting 120 recipients of emails as the limit? So I can only send combined emails to 120 recipients per hour? What is the alternative solution here? I'd rather not have to stagger out these emails from midnight to 9AM to stay under the 120 recipient limit.

Welcome to the community, @jmchapel! Thanks for reaching out. :slightly_smiling_face:

Generally speaking, the provided Retool Email resource isn't intended to support high volume use cases and, as such, is rate limited for all Cloud customers. What's somewhat unclear is the fact that a single email sent to 10 recipients counts as 10 separate emails. This approach is actually pretty common among cloud SMTP services, however, and is designed to combat spammy messages from bad actors.

If your specific use cases requires a higher limit, we recommend configuring a dedicated SMTP resource like SendGrid or Mailgun. There are a bunch of alternative services, but those are two of the bigger players!
