Tooltip in a table shows outside of the screen

Goal:

For the columns pinned at the left, I want the tooltip to show right below the cell. When editing the cell that's pinned to the left of the table, I also want the editing box to be right below the cell, just like all the other unpinned cells.

Steps:

Say you have 20 columns in a table, and the first 6 columns are pinned to the left. Now try edit a cell in column 5, the edit box will show at the every left instead of below the cell. +. For the first column, I have a tooltip, hovering on the cell should show detailed information. However, the tool tip didn't show on the screen because it went to the very left and even went out of the main screen.

Hi @JasonYu, are we still experiencing this? I was not able to reproduce it on Cloud.

I'm using one Tabbed Container component with a table inside and a column with the 'Tag' format (21 columns).

The dropdown opens right below the cell:

The tooltip shows next to it:

Are we on Self-hosted Retool?

HI, I'm on cloud retool, and I'm still experiencing the problem. I'm using a sample data table, and pinned name and roles to the left. See the screenshot: when I double click the role (trying to edit it), the options shows up on the very left of the table instead of right below the cell.

Thank you for expanding on your experience, I was able to reproduce it.
We created a bug report for this issue and we'll let you know here when it's fixed. :slightly_smiling_face:

Great! Looking forward to the fix, and if possible, let the PM give it a higher priority in the next sprint LOL, really need this bug to be fixed so I can show the app to my users.

Hi Paulo,
Any chance that this bug can be fixed? I really confused me and my team a lot.

Having the tooltip and select dropdown render far from their respective elements can feel frustrating, especially when aiming for a seamless user experience. While this issue doesn’t affect the core functionality of the app (everything still works as intended and the app remains usable), we completely recognize that it’s an inconvenience. Currently, we’re prioritizing bugs that have a higher impact on functionality or app usability.

Thank you for your understanding.
