Retool Mobile Layout Issue: Component Sequence Randomly Reorders in UI

Goal
Ensure the component order (sequence) in Retool Mobile stays consistent between the UI canvas and the Component Pane.

Issue
The component sequence does not reliably follow the order shown in the Component Pane.
There are cases where:

  • The alignment is initially correct

  • Then suddenly reshuffles on its own

  • Once it happens, I can’t restore the original order, even after manual re-ordering

This makes layout control on mobile unpredictable.

Steps Taken to Troubleshoot

  • Wrapped components inside containers β†’ issue persists

  • Removed containers entirely β†’ same behavior

  • Rebuilt component structure from scratch β†’ still occurs

  • Tried reordering only from the Component Pane β†’ does not consistently reflect in UI

Environment

  • Retool Cloud

  • Platform: Retool Mobile

  • Happens across multiple screens/components

Impact

  • Mobile layout becomes unstable

  • Hard to maintain visual hierarchy and UX consistency

  • Risky for production QC flows where sequence matters

We’re hoping the Component Pane order can be treated as the single source of truth, so the UI on Retool Mobile always follows the same sequence. This would really help keep layouts predictable and make it easier for us to maintain a clean, consistent mobile experience.

My apologies, I was under the impression it would have shipped by now. Yes, I am tracking it internally and will follow up here when the fix is live

I was informed that the fix won't be available until Tuesday (with our regularly scheduled Cloud update) :disappointed_face: We appreciate your patience here! I will keep you updated if I hear anything else related to this issue

The layout should be working correctly in the editor now. We are looking into reports that the layout changes made in the editor are still not populating in the mobile app

Thanks for the update! I can confirm the layout issue reported previously is now working correctly in the editor on my end. I’ll continue monitoring the mobile app behavior, so far, everything looks good
