We currently used Comeen as our global group diffusion to our employee. In Comeen, I just add the URL that the supplier (Mercateam) share to us and Comeen used the built in browser of Samsung Signage TV to display the site. Currently, Samsung (QM32C) deliver the TV with a Chrome 96 version and we're on the latest Firmware and there no option to update this Browser. That's a huge problem for us because we have a lot Samsung Signage deployed in our company (more than 200) and currently we have a blank page with no solution.
Is there a way to help us to solve this issue without the need of buying new screen ?
I am afraid we don't have any documentation on how to get Retool set up on Chrome 96 and can't guarantee that this version of the browser will work with retool
As there might be some browser limitations that are not compatible with our software or cause errors
On our docs here we list out that Retool officially supports the latest stable releases of the following desktop web browsers:
Editing apps in alternative browsers, on mobile devices, or using beta and nightly builds is not officially supported.
The one workaround I could think of would be to use an embedded iframe of a Retool app and put this inside of a web app that you currently are able to view on your TVs.
If any other community users have been able to get a Retool app to work with Comeen I would love to hear from them as well
Hopefully Samsung is able to help, or if the limit is the tech maybe they can replace with the newer "smart" TVs that have greater capabilities for updating software so the browser can run Retool apps.
I wish there was more I can do to help if the browser can be updated that should hopefully solve the issue and get the Retool apps to render for your whole team.
Just to inform that I'm still waiting the return from Samsung support. The person I had on phone tell me that sometimes Samsung doing some specific firmware but to be honest I'm not optimist on that
In terms of work arounds. Is there any chance you can have a computer share screen to the televisions via something such as zoom and this can be used to display your app on all the screens that connect to the zoom room?
Also curious about what data/info is being displayed by the Retool app that you would like to show on the TV screens. Retool is primarily a User Interface for engaging with apps and data, not sure we would be the right solution for displaying static screens or web apps that are not interactive
Sorry for late news ! I had a phone call with Samsung and it was pretty funny. To summarize, Samsung made me understand that it is up to the software to adapt to their browser and not the other way around. I explained to them that their browser displays a chromium 96 compatibility version and that the latest version to date is 133. That we are perhaps the first to encounter this but that it will accelerate to the extent that the Web platforms will update.
For the PC attached to the TV, that's currently what we're doing but to be honest, at a company scale level, if we can buy only a TV and use built in solution it's better for finance perspective . In addition, the functionality to manage energy directly in Comeen for the Samsung Signage series
Normally I would have a last call with the Samsung Sales Department but now we're moving to a Windows 11 stick attach to the screen in Kiosk mode and I'm not very confident that we will move forward with Samsung. That's just a joke that a huge company like Samsung didn't follow the version of Chromium.
Thank you for the update I am sorry for these issues dealing with Samsung. Smart TV integration should be easier than this.
Retool has not been able to fully move into these use cases, since computers are much better for interacting with apps and are able to update their browsers as needed.
Windows 11 stick should hopefully work much better!
