Latest Updates/Fixes are not published for the other members

  • Goal:
When I do fixes / updates everyone in the team should see and able to see the latest version

  • Details:
I am the developer and there are other admins in the app, many times I share that something was added or fixed they are not able to see it even they refresh / log out and login again

Please can you tell me why and how to fix this as it's a blocker for us to keep developing and moving forward

Hi @CoderNadir,
I can try to help you figure this out. Your answers to the following questions will help me better narrow down what your issue is:
Are you on Retool Cloud, or are you self-hosted? Are you using source control and are you developing on a certain branch? Are you publishing released versions of your app?

Thanks!

Hi @lindakwoo

Answers:
1- yes I am on Retool could
2- about source control/certain branch, didn't get what you mean!
3- I create releases just in case by an accident an app got deleted or something else close to this, so I am not publishing the released versions, so the published version is the live one (active one).

My case was I worked on implementing a new feature a couple weeks ago and after a 1 week one of my colleagues wanted to use it so he found out that it doesn't exists at all and when I checked also from my side didn't find anything from what I've implemented before (no functions/components/vars), after I finished this feature I gave it enough time to be save and also tested it and worked fine and recorded a video how it's working, and I had that issue before but it was only for small changes not big implementations like the latest one, cuz this kind of issue will keep you work on the same thing again and again...

Thank you

CoderNadir,

( By source control, I meant are you using something like Github or Gitlab to manage different branches in your development process. I will assume by your answer that you are not! )

If you have published a release, only that one will be shown on your shared links until you publish another one. So all your changes are saved on your versions that you have been creating. If you want others to be able to see your changes, you need to publish your latest changes.

All users can tell which version of the app they are viewing in the bottom left hand corner:

Okay, got you.

Still don't believe that the issue is from my side as not being able to manage versions or something like that, as I believe the issue is that sometimes we loose some of the work as I experienced this before many times in tiny changes but this one was a bit big loss .
I'll try to see what scenario is causing this issue and update here or even create a ticket if this one get closed!

Based on your experience which way do you recommend (Retool Cloud or Self-hosting)?

@CoderNadir,
Yes, please let me know the next time you lose changes that you make to your app. This should NOT be happening.

With regard to using Retool Cloud versus self-hosted, it depends on your specific use case. If you have strict data privacy needs and want a highly secure environment where you control your own infra, you should self-host. With Retool Cloud, Retool hosts and manages everything for you, including automatic updates and maintenance. You will not have to manage your own infrastructure. It is the easiest option for you if you do not have strict data security/compliance needs.

Here is a doc to read regarding Retool security practices on Cloud and self-hosted.

Hey @CoderNadir

You can share the app using preview

share the preview app link to your team.

Hi @WidleStudioLLP

but that's not gonna fix it as the issue occurred from my side too!

Hey @CoderNadir

Then you have to launch the app, just like @lindakwoo says.
