How to Notify Users of Concurrent Editing on Shared Data Entry Screens?

Hello Retool Community,

We have several screens in Retool that are used for shared data entry, where multiple users may access and fill out the same screen at the same time.

We’d like to implement a feature that notifies users in real time when others are currently filling out the same screen (i.e., entering or modifying data), to warn them that their changes may be lost due to concurrent editing. This is about users entering data, not editing the Retool app itself.

Has anyone implemented real-time user presence or editing notifications in Retool? Are there built-in features, best practices, or recommended approaches (such as websockets, polling, etc.) for this use case? Any limitations or security considerations to be aware of?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hey @amirovv,

Thanks for reaching out to the Retool community.

This is a great idea to have in a future release of Retool! I went to go file a feature request and noticed a comment on a FR from a few days ago which was linked from your ticket with support. Looks like Alice already helped you out with this request before we could get to it here

Let us know if you need anything else!
