Extremely slow experience in app

  1. My goal: Faster Retool app experience
  2. Issue:
  • A. A few users who access our Retool apps from Asia face severe lag. A VPN seems to help some of them, but it isn't enough.
  • B. App performance is extremely slow on brand new laptop with no other apps running on a fresh browser compared to a different laptop with multiple tabs open - both using the same WiFi. Access via phone is always extremely fast but our app is not meant to be used on mobile.
  1. Steps I've taken to troubleshoot:
  • A. Suggested for users in Asia to connect to US or Europe - there is generally some improvement, but the difference is not large between the two. For some users, the VPN does not help at all with speed.
  • B. Tested clearing browser details, restarting computer, ensuring all apps are closed, etc.

I would think a good starting point would be to isolate what parts of your application are taking the most time. It might be a network issue, or a query delaying the loading process of the application.

A good route to follow is outlined in this Lab. Try applying the principles to your own application. And get a User in Asia to do the same.

Once you have some stats on this reply back and I'll try my best to help you debug the issue :slight_smile:

Hi @Pet_Media_Group, if you're noticing the app experience to be much different based on different devices, is it possible you're using Windows 11? Here is a thread explaining how to get around those performance issues if that is the case.
