We’ve redesigned the Retool Database UI to make it faster and more intuitive to use!
Managing your data should be quick and frictionless, so we’ve made key improvements to help you navigate, edit, and interact with your data more efficiently. Here’s what’s new:
Clearer Data View – A more structured layout makes it easier to understand your database at a glance and quickly find the information you need, reducing clutter and improving readability.
Faster Navigation – We’ve streamlined the layout to help you move through your data more efficiently, with fewer clicks and less friction.
One-Stop Command Bar – Quickly find and perform any actions from a new central location, enabling you to work efficiently without hunting through menus.
We’re looking to roll this out to some early users to get feedback ahead of a broad roll-out, and we’d love for you to try it out!
Sign up here, and we’ll enable the new UI for your account. You’ll receive an email once it’s ready to use, which will also let you know how best to get your feedback to us.
Hi Stefan - We're currently working on another project to support multiple instances of a Retool Database resource, which can be permissioned separately (like other types of resources). Is that something you'd be interested in beta testing once it's ready?
As for the feedback on a visual representation of schemas, we did include tables and columns in the left navigation with this redesign. Does that address that request? If not, I'd love to understand more what you're looking for and why
For example, you might have an internal schema that contains tables like users, projects, and time, while a separate payments schema includes tables such as invoices and states.
IIRC previously using . wasn't supported in table names - just wondering if we'll get a visual representation of them.
@stefancvrkotic that makes sense. We don't currently have anything currently on the roadmap around grouping tables under a schema or similar concept, although with our support of multiple Retool Database resources that does add some grouping.
Will continue to include that enhancement in mind for future updates!
This looks like a great improvement! A more intuitive UI and streamlined navigation will definitely enhance the experience of managing data in Retool. Excited to try out the new command bar—having a centralized action hub sounds like a game-changer.
@WidleStudioLLP is always looking for ways to optimize internal tools, and these updates seem like a big step forward. Looking forward to exploring the changes and sharing feedback!
In our organisation we have a lot of tables and navigating them can be quite a challenge. The UI update will certainly help. Also very interested in the support for multiple database instances.
