Database is missing columns

  1. My goal: Get a database fixed.

  2. Issue: I have an app that has been working for over 6 months. Recently a user told me it has an error. When I go to take a look it looks like 4 columns are no longer in the database. I have no idea how this happened and I'm still trying to figure it out. Some of those columns were deeply important (connections to other databases). Even a back up of the database before those columns were dropped would be extremely helpful.

  3. Steps I've taken to troubleshoot: I looked thru audit logs to see when this change happened, it appears to have happened some time yesterday evening.

Hi @drkb
The database in question is RetoolDB? If so I believe Retool team can restore to a backup, just let them know time you would like them to restore it to and prod database url, not sure if any other details are needed.

Yes it is the Retool database. How would I get in contact with someone who could do that? I only know of this forum and the email support@retool.com but that seems to be for account issues and billing issues.

Hey @drkb - if you're talking about the provided Retool Database, I can help you out. :+1: What I'll do is generate a snapshot of your DB as it existed at a particular point in time and then create a new resource that you can use to query it. You'll need to retrieve the desired data via this new resource and add it back into your DB.

What timestamp should I use when generating the snapshot?

I think July 1st of 2025 is a likely safe date.

I can only go back a maximum of 7 days. Would that be sufficient?

Lets go with that then! If it actually broke earlier than that we'll deal with it

Done! You'll want to act fast in order to avoid losing anything, so I recommend querying this resource immediately and exporting everything as a .csv or similar.
