We have a business scanner functionality in our retool mobile app.
When using the mobile camera input component to scan those business cards, we are facing blurry photos on iPhone 15/16 Pro (which have an ultra wide lens).
The reason is that the component does not properly activate the ultra wide lens for macro mode. So the camera does not switch focus to macro mode which is needed for near photos.
Are you aware of that problem?
Is there any workaround?
Any help is highly appreciated.
Best,
Jens
Any news on this? This is a serious BUG.
I don't know if retool is using the react vision camera or expo internally for the component. In case of vision camera it would be easy to select which lens to use by setting the zoom level. Please look into this soon as we otherwise can't use retool at all.
I am sure other clients would need to use the macro as well to take photos of documents, QR code... It is not useful if the photos are blurry.
Hi @studioRAYY ,
I am going to look into this for you. In the meantime, might I suggest that you use a fileInput instead and have the user take a picture with their native ios camera app and upload the file into the file input. Let me know if that works for you.
Dear Linda,
thank you for looking into it. To take a photo from outside retool is no solution for our use case. Our users need to take these photos regularly and expect a better usability.
Hopefully you can fix the problem.
Best,
Jens
