Retool-based app instead of a CRM? Am I being crazy?

Hey everyone,
I recently read a blog post by an old friend of mine, on how he believes the next generation of SaaS will be data warehouse native. A Pipedrive/Hubspot/Close.io product that sits on top of your own data warehouse doesn't exist today, but it might be the future?
(It's a good read: https://heyjakob.substack.com/p/did-snowflake-just-hint-at-warehouse)

I'm currently setting up a new startup, and after having played around with Pipedrive, Hubspot and Close.io, I'm coming to the conclusion that no CRM might be the best CRM, and instead manage it all through Retool + Front (+a few custom handlers on a small NodeJS server).

Has anyone done this? With which results?

I have my own IT company and was considering doing the same thing.

We're getting more confident in trying this out!
Will share my experience as we go along, but keyword for us here is that instead of us adapting our business routines and practices to third parties, we can stay more efficient by adapting our CRM to our flows, rather than adapting our flows to our CRM.
