Prompt Assist fails across all apps (new + existing) with Retool-managed OpenAI/Anthropic

  1. 1. My goal

    Use Retool’s Prompt Assist (AI panel) to generate and edit dashboards during app building, using Retool-managed AI (no custom API keys).

    2. Issue

    Prompt Assist fails across all apps (existing, duplicated, and new) with the error:

    “Something went wrong… may be an issue with your Anthropic or OpenAI key…”

    This happens even though:

    • Using Retool-managed OpenAI and Anthropic resources

    • No custom API keys configured

    • AI worked previously without any setup

    3. Steps I've taken to troubleshoot

    • Verified OpenAI + Anthropic resources are Retool-managed

    • Checked AI settings (Assist Tab, Ask AI enabled)

    • Tried different models (e.g. gpt-4o-mini, chatgpt-4o-latest)

    • Toggled AI settings OFF → ON

    • Hard refresh + new browser session

    • Switched environments (prod/staging)

    • Duplicated existing app

    • Created completely new app

    • Confirmed issue persists across all apps

    4. Additional info

    • Retool Cloud (not self-hosted)

    • Issue is isolated to Prompt Assist panel

    • “Ask AI” (query-level AI) appears to work

    • Error occurs immediately on prompt submission

    • No recent intentional config changes — likely related to recent AI system changes
