New app builder - cannot connect Google Gemini resource to the app

Hi, I’ve built an app using the new ai builder and i want to add Google Gemini to the resources available to this app.

I’ve already added Google Gemini in the global Resources page.

Problem is that builder cannot see the resource in order to add it to my app. Tried to find a way to manually add it but with no luck.

Hope someone can help.

Thank you in advance!

Summary

Using the new AI app builder, a Google Gemini resource was added on the global Resources page, but the builder/agent cannot see it to make it available within the app.

AI Response

This is a known resource-discovery behavior in the new app builder, and Retool has since shipped improvements to how the sandbox consumes resource information. First try a hard page refresh and then starting a brand-new chat thread, since the agent typically only picks up resources created after app generation once the thread is re-initialized. Also confirm the resource and app live in the same workspace and that your user group has access to the Gemini resource, as the builder only surfaces resources the group is permitted to use. Note that Gemini can serve two distinct roles: as the AI model powering the builder agent (configured by an admin as an AI resource) versus a resource your generated app queries, so verify you're enabling it for the intended purpose.

A near-identical new app builder case where a globally created resource wouldn't surface; Retool staff shared a workaround (refresh plus initializing a new chat thread) and confirmed on July 31, 2026 that resource discovery was significantly improved.

Confirms Google Gemini is a supported AI resource for the new app builder and that admins must ensure the relevant user groups have access before it can be used.

Update - I asked the builder to add the Gemini Resource from the beginning (same API key) and it finally worked. I ended up with two Gemini resources in the Resources page, removed the one I created initially and all seem to work fine now.
