How to create a mobile+desktop responsive app?

I’m hoping to use Retool to create an app that will work across mobile devices, tablets, and desktop browsers. It seems like my options are limited and I'm interested in advice on how best to do it:

If I create an app in Retool Mobile, it works well on phone and tablet, but I see no way to use it normally in a desktop browser — it’s always embedded in a device frame next to a big QR code. Is there a way to remove that frame? (And, ideally, to offer keyboard navigation?)

If instead, I create the app in regular (non-mobile) Retool, the results are better, as long as I supply _embed=true in the URL. I still get this little Retool popup menu:

Is there a way to get rid of that too? Any other tips?

Thanks!

Hello @dfeldman!

My best recommendation for an app that works well on desktop ad mobile is to definitely create the web app first, as there are a couple options to format a web app for mobile but not the other way around

setting _embed=true is the right way to go :fire:

Also in you app's settings, there is a toggle for 'Enable bobile layout' as shown in the bottom of my screenshot below.

Also here are some docs on setting up the mobile layout for a web app!

For the little Retool popup menu, is that appearing on the mobile app or in the browser? Is that in the editor or on the live version of Retool app? I think that might be

If so, where on the screen? If you could share a larger screenshot that might be helpful. I have a hunch that might be something that can only be removed by 'white-labeling' the app, which is an enterprise level feature  but not 100% certain.

Thanks for the reply @Jack_T! I'll look through those docs.

Here's a screenshot of what I see with the little menu lower left. I see it in both desktop and mobile browsers.

Of course no problem!

Thank you for sharing the screenshot.

So I did some internal searching about found that the only way to make it entirely disappear is with an enterprise plan . With business plan, you can make it smaller so it only says "powered by Retool" without the face logo.

In my screenshot below, inside of 'Settings' under Branding, User menu controls what appears.

Your screenshot showed that display for 'Menu with Retool branding', with business you will see the 'Powered by Retool' option which will make it smaller, but only enterprise accounts can made this fully disappear with the 'Hide menu' option.
