Does it seem like Retool is giving up? Little to no improvements to components this year, lingering component bugs for years, incomplete functionality and consistency across components, App building UI becoming slower and brutal to work with.
It seems like focus has shifted to AI workflows and Retool has given up on improving the App building environment and the core components. Maybe it is just me, but with AI and the price we pay, I would expect to see more improvements to the app building product and a faster pace of development.
Hi @drewski, I totally understand your frustration, your issues with app building are definitely noted. You're not wrong that AI is a big focus for us right now, but balancing that with maintaining our core customer experience is still one of our top goals.
We are always listening to the forum for feedback as well. The more we hear about the UI or slow performance, the higher priority it becomes for us. If you'd like to share some specific areas in which we could improve, we want to hear it.
Hi @drewski ! I'm the CEO @ Retool. A colleague sent me your post, so I wanted to reply here directly.
We've been working on quite a few areas of the product (as Mike highlighted above). And as you note, the Agents product (and AI-driven workflows) has been the focus for the first half of this year. But over the last few months, we've been working on an refreshed app building experience which we think will be a substantial jump forward. We're launching that later in August — stay tuned!
If you're ever interested in hoping on a call, I'd be happy to share more details about what is coming. Feel free to email me directly anytime; I'm david AT retool.com.
I came here with a view to asking the same sort of question.
All the announcements and notifications I've been getting from Retool recently have been about AI, and I was beginning to wonder whether the basic database components were being forgotten in a headlong rush to use AI.
