Hey Retool community
We’re opening early access to a centralized agent harness that lets employees work with agents in Slack, Teams, and Google Chat while admins control the tools, data, and models those agents can use.
The core idea is straightforward: agents run on shared company infrastructure, and their tool calls pass through a gateway where you enforce policies before they reach business systems.
Here’s what an agent harness gives you:
- Central control over access. Define which tools and data agents can reach. Policies can inspect tool arguments, so access to a tool doesn’t automatically allow every action that tool supports. These checks are enforced outside the model.
- Separate identities for agents. Each agent has its own virtual service account and policies. Audit logs distinguish actions taken by a person from actions taken by their agent with delegated access.
- Visibility into activity and spend. Inspect actions, inputs, and outputs by person, model, and job. Trace token spend to the work it funded and investigate individual runs.
- Shared skills and context. Files, skills, and code live in centrally hosted, permissioned folders mapped to your identity groups. Make useful work available to the right teams without expanding access to the underlying systems.
- Control over models and infrastructure. Configure model access and routing, and self-host in your own VPC.
What this looks like at Retool, internally
We’ve been experimenting with these agents across our own teams at Retool for a few months now! One example is Dax, our shared data agent. Employees tag Dax into data questions directly in Slack, where the agent works with company knowledge and context from our data tables.
Because those conversations happen in shared threads, people can see Dax’s work and bring a data teammate into the conversation to review or correct an answer. Corrections are saved to the agent’s memory, giving it more context for future questions—and making that knowledge useful to others who work with Dax.

Have you tried using tools like OpenClaw, Hermes, or Claude Cowork at your company? What’s been the biggest blocker to rolling them out more broadly across your organization?
We’d love to hear what you’ve tried and where you’ve gotten stuck.
