(BUG) Copilot unable to edit or remove agent tools

Hello  I’m running into two issues:
1. The copilot (or “Configuration assistant”?) throws an error when trying to update an existing tool—it seems like it’s trying to add it again instead of editing it. I assume it should be using something like editTool instead of replacing the tool entirely.
2. The copilot can’t remove tools. I asked it to, and it said it did—but the tools are still there.

Maybe these aren’t bugs exactly—I get why you might be cautious about letting the copilot delete or overwrite chunks of code. But as a user, I need to trust that it can make the changes I ask for.

Thanks!

P.S.
n8n is awesome and can automate just about anything—but setting up any automation is painfully slow.

It feels like you’re building the Cursor of automation, with Agents at the core. If you can make the copilot smart enough to help setup workflows and automations for us—like how Cursor or Windsurf helps us with code—I’ll be one of your very many, very happy customers.

Welcome to the community, @Piny! I'm happy to see you and so many others engaging with the agents product.

The behavior that you're describing isn't a bug, per se, as the Configuration Assistant currently only has the explicit ability to specifically create tools. We are planning to expand upon its functionality, though, which will include the power to update or delete existing tools. As soon as we have a timeline for that work, we'll let you know!

In general, I agree that there's a ton of potential for this kind of AI assistance across different parts of the product. Building an agent function is mostly analogous to creating a workflow, for example, which is a product area that a lot of builders find intimidating. Then there's the app-building AI that we're working on, as well! Exciting times.

Hi Darren

Thanks for the reply!

I’m not sure if I fit your ideal customer profile, but here’s what brought me in: I was hoping for a quick, easy way to build automations.

If this were 2023, what n8n and Retool offer today would feel both fast and simple (especially with powerful features like evals). But in 2025, with tools like Cursor and Windsurf, the bar has moved a lot. Now we can build similar automations on our own infra in matters of minutes/hours, and by comparison, using Retool feels slow and clunky. (Spent forever finding something in your docs and debugging an issue with a workflow.)

What I’m really hoping for is a “Cursor for Automation”—an agent smart enough to build and update workflows & agents for us, helping us actually get the automation we need with faster and with less friction.

Of course, maybe you’re heading in a different direction :woman_shrugging: I might not be your target user. But I’m definitely hoping you’re building toward something like this.

Thanks again!

I appreciate that perspective and am excited to share future updates with you! At the very least, I'll provide an update here when the assistant's tool management abilities have been expanded.
