Creates an odd UX experience to click a dropdown button (which then triggers a query) but not show any type of indicator to the user that something is happening.
Hey @pmadden
Thanks for reaching to the Retool community.
For your post, is this more of a feature request to add a loading indicator for a dropdown button?
In your situation do you have a mapped query that is loading the results on click possibly and this is slow to load? I am just trying to best understand the need to best file this with our developers.

Hi @John_V - I’m just looking for parity with the standard button component, essentially.
If you have a query that takes a few seconds to complete, it’s very helpful to be able to show the user a loading indicator so they know that something is processing. I use this extensively across Retool
The “Dropdown Button” component, however, does not support a loading indicator. This is a shame, because this component is otherwise really helpful and a great way to consolidate what would otherwise be multiple buttons into a single element.
@pmadden thanks for the extra details!
We actually have a feature request for this at the moment and it looks like its already in the Dev backlog. While I can’t say when this will be released, know that the Dev team also thought this was a good idea and plans to add it in some future release of Retool.
Let me know if you have any additional comments on the topic and feel free to leave them here. I linked this post to the internal FR and they will see them. ![]()
