Store Korean text in the retool database

  • Goal:
I want to store Korean text in the retool database intact.

  • Steps:
I created a database in Retool, added a field, made it a text field, and saved the Korean text. However, when it was first saved, it was fine, but after a while, for some reason, the Korean text changed to ๏ฟฝ.

  • Details:
This data is information about the messages that are sent to Slack. I'm not sure if it's because of the Slack message API or DB settings.

  • Screenshots:

Hi @bomin, welcome to the forum!

Were the values for these columns added manually using the Retool Database UI (as you're showing on your screenshot)? Or was there a process of fetching messages using the Slack API and updating the rows where this is happening?

If you have the original values on Slack, please send a sentence including those characters here so we can test it on our end.

  1. The columns and each data added and updated by manually using Retool Database UI.

  2. I attached the text data for you.

Thank you for expanding on your experience!

I added the line that is causing issues on your end but I'm not seeing the '๏ฟฝ's yet. You mentioned it happened after a while, I'm hoping to be able to reproduce this issue.

Do you have other entries where this happened? I'm happy to test with other characters.

Thank you

I think this issue is happening with long text messages like the one I attached above.

It's an intermittent issue and doesn't happen immediately after saving, so how do I report it the next time it happens?

Please let us know here as soon as it happens. This way, we can see if it's related to a new release or other changes on our end. Personally, I've only seen the '๏ฟฝ's show up in text when running into issues during ASCII/base64 manipulation.

UTF-8 should efficiently represents characters from different languages, including Korean so I'm surprised you are experiencing this in the first place.

If/when it happens again, please track which characters this happened with. From the screenshot you shared, it looks like it only happened with ์Šต.
