Form control data - fields suddenly undefined

Having a problem with an existing app which uses the form control. The data property has no fields. For example {{form_highlights.data.gifts}} returns undefined. This code has been running for around a year, and we are seeing a problem for the first time this afternoon

Thanks for the update @alex-w. Not urgent at this point. I just replaced the form control with a container, to resolve the issue in prod.
