Broadly speaking, tools that implement editing boxes and arrows (Figjam, tldraw, etc) allow for 'post its' or notes. These are just nodes that don't connect to anything else in the workflow and allow users to leave text sprinkled around the diagram/design.
I think this would help make workflows 'self-documenting' and users would be able to collaborate or leave 'to-dos' in the workflow.
