Using custom authentication, when one of my requests returns a 500 error I have to reauthenticate

My custom authentication has been working as expected until now.

I have a form submission that I expect to return a 500 error under certain circumstances. When this occurs, retool is losing the session and I am forced to reauthenticate.

Any ideas what causes this?
