User-facing app breaks with "Module not found" if edits are unpublished

Description:
I noticed a bug where any change made to a Retool app (without doing a release) prevents the end-user from loading the page. Instead, they get a "Module not found" error.

  • In the developer view, everything works fine and the edits are visible.
  • In the end-user view, the app completely fails to load until I explicitly publish/release the changes.

Expected behavior:
Unpublished changes should not affect the currently released version. End-users should still be able to load the last released version without errors.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open an existing app.
  2. Make a modification (e.g., update/delete a component).
  3. Do not release the app.
  4. Open the app as an end-user.

Result:
The end-user sees "Module not found" and cannot access the app.

Hi @TECH_ALMOND,

That is very odd behavior and should not be occurring.

I just tested out the steps you mentioned and did not get the same error or issue. Let me know if I am missing any steps. I am not using a module, maybe having a module causes this bug?

Are you altering or deleting the module when editing before this behavior is observed?

Hi @TECH_ALMOND,

Just wanted to double check in this issue. Curious if you are still experiencing this and if you have added details on what steps I may be missing to reproduce this behavior to file a bug report!
