New Apps In Folder Always Only Given Partial Permission to Group, Instead of Full

Current plan level (Free, Team, Business, or Enterprise: Retool | Retool Pricing): Business
Monthly/Annual (if Team or Business): Annual
Version of Retool (if self-hosted): N/A

Question / Description:

I have a folder which I've given a group "Use" permission ("Checkmark") to all apps in the folder, specifically to allow for embedding the app in our application. However, whenever an app in the folder is cloned, the permission for that new app is defaulting to what appears to be "partial" Use permission and the embedded app always gives a permission error on the page it is embedding in until I manually go and change the partial permission to a full checkmark.

What is causing this? By giving permission to the folder, shouldn't it automatically grant permission to apps in the folder? We have other folders and permission groups where it seems we don't have this issue?

Hey @fobtastic! Welcome back to the forum. And thanks for reaching out.

The behavior you've described is definitely unexpected. It's not abundantly clear via the Retool UI but there shouldn't be any functional difference between the "full" and "partial" checkmarks. The former indicates that permissions have been explicitly assigned whereas the former shows that permissions are instead inherited.

It sounds like this might be a bug specifically scoped to the embed permissions. Does that sound accurate? Are you trying to embed apps in the folders where you aren't experiencing any issues?

I will see if it is possible to reproduce this behavior on my end and provide an update as soon as possible. :+1:
