Connector Issue - intermittent Retool Connector issue (Retool -> Clickhouse)

  1. My goal: Resolve the DB connection issues so our data platform is stable.

  2. Issue:
    As of yesterday morning, we began having intermittent issues with our DB connection (Clickhouse) in Retool. We get a slew of error messages when opening our applications “Unexpected error occurred while running query.” These errors persist for ~5 to 10 minutes before resolving on their own and remaining stable for around an hour. When testing the connection during these outages, we will get the ‘Test Connection Failed’ error.

  3. Steps I've taken to troubleshoot:
    Checked for meta data corruption, unlikely since this would produce consistent errors and not intermittent ones.
    Not a too many parts issue as all parts in our database are < 100 parts per table.
    Database was stable and accessible through other connections which points to an issue in Retool.

Hi @Connor_H,

That is very odd, let me see what I can do to troubleshoot what could be causing this issue. I wish the error messages were more descriptive.

Are you able to check if there are any errors or messaged on the Clickhouse side of things? Are you self hosting that or is that DB hosted on their cloud? I am curious to find out if this may be some type of networking limitation on their end.

If you have the ResourceID or queryID on the Retool side I can try to dig in more to what could be causing those error messages.

I checked and there doesn't seem to be any incidents on our end around the date range you are describing.

Are you still experiencing connection outages?
